The difference
Hosts pay no booking commission and receive their host amount in full. A guest cost contribution of 6.9% of the host amount is already included in the displayed total. It contributes to payment processing, refund handling and payment loss costs.
Take a simple example: an owner who wants to earn RM 4,532 for a week.
| What each platform takes | Airbnb | Booking.com | BookNoFees |
|---|---|---|---|
| Host booking commission | 15.5% | 15%–25% | 0% |
| Payment processing & protection | included | contract-specific | 6.9% |
| Owner keepson a RM 4,532 listing | RM 3,830 | RM 3,399–RM 3,852 | RM 4,532 |
| Guest paysfor RM 4,532 to reach the owner | RM 5,362 | RM 5,330–RM 6,041 | RM 4,845 |
Over 18 weeks let, that is more than RM 9,064 a year in this example — money that stays with the guest or reaches the owner.
Rates checked in September 2026. Under its single-fee structure, Airbnb charges most hosts 15.5%; Airbnb says other hosts typically pay between 14% and 16%. Exceptions depend on country and account type. Booking.com sets the commission rate in each accommodation agreement, and visibility programmes may increase it. This worked example uses a possible range of 15% to 25%. If Booking.com facilitates payment, the applicable payment terms and transaction cost are contract-specific. Our 6.9% cost contribution is included in the displayed total and contributes towards Stripe payment fees and refunds. Nothing is added at checkout and nothing is deducted from the owner. Fee models can change, so please check each platform’s current terms. Sources: Airbnb Help Center and Booking.com General Delivery Terms.
One country. Many favorite places.
Portugal packs an astonishing range of holiday into one compact, sun-warmed country. In the south, the Algarve strings together golden cliff-backed coves and easygoing resort towns from Lagos to Tavira. The capital, Lisbon, spills across seven hills above the Tagus, with the palaces of Sintra and the beach town of Cascais a short hop west. Head north for Porto's tiled riverfront and the terraced vineyards of the Douro Valley, the birthplace of port wine. Between the two big cities, the quieter Silver Coast lines up surf breaks, walled Obidos and the giant waves of Nazare. Inland, the Alentejo rolls out cork oaks, whitewashed villages and a genuinely slow pace. Far out in the Atlantic, Madeira offers year-round hiking and flower-filled gardens, while the nine volcanic Azores islands deliver crater lakes, hot springs and whale watching.

Vacation rentals in Portugal: FAQ
Book vacation apartments and holiday homes safely with BookNoFees ↗For beaches and reliable sun, the Algarve is the classic choice, with Lagos and Faro among the easiest car-free bases. City lovers gravitate to Lisbon and Porto, both walkable and rich in food, tiles and viewpoints. The Douro Valley is made for wine and river scenery, the Alentejo for slow rural stays, and the Silver Coast for surf towns like Ericeira and Nazare. For nature and hiking, the islands — Madeira and the Azores — are hard to beat.
Late spring (May and June) and early autumn (September and October) tend to offer warm weather with thinner crowds than midsummer, especially in the Algarve and around Lisbon. July and August are the busiest and hottest months on the mainland coast. Madeira stays mild for hiking almost year-round, while the Azores are greenest and best for whale watching in spring and summer. Always confirm current conditions, as weather varies year to year.
It depends on the region. Lisbon and Porto have good public transport, and towns like Faro, Lagos, Portimao and Tavira in the Algarve are walkable and linked by train and bus. For the Douro Valley, the Alentejo countryside and exploring the islands beyond the main towns, a rental car makes life much easier. Discuss parking and transfers with your host when you book — many can advise on the nearest station or airport.
You can message the host before booking. For a booking request, Stripe first places a card hold for the full amount; the host has 48 hours to accept, and only then is the amount captured. Instant Book is charged immediately after Stripe confirms payment. Do not transfer the booking amount directly to the host. The displayed total already includes the 6.9% guest fee on the host price, covering payment processing, refund handling and payment risks.
BookNoFees deducts no commission from the amount set by the host. The displayed total includes a 6.9% guest fee on the host price, covering payment processing, refund handling and payment risks. Nothing is added at checkout.
Legal short-term rentals in Portugal operate under the Alojamento Local (AL) scheme and are issued an official registration (RNAL) number, which hosts are generally required to display on their listing. Rules changed in recent years and some city districts apply local limits on new registrations, so specifics vary by municipality. If it matters to you, ask your host for their AL registration number when booking.
