Rates checked in September 2026. Under its single-fee structure, Airbnb charges most hosts 15.5%; Airbnb says other hosts typically pay between 14% and 16%. Exceptions depend on country and account type. Booking.com sets the commission rate in each accommodation agreement, and visibility programmes may increase it. This worked example uses a possible range of 15% to 25%. If Booking.com facilitates payment, the applicable payment terms and transaction cost are contract-specific. Our 6.9% cost contribution is included in the displayed total and contributes towards Stripe payment fees and refunds. Nothing is added at checkout and nothing is deducted from the owner. Fee models can change, so please check each platform’s current terms. Sources: Airbnb Help Center and Booking.com General Delivery Terms.

Popular places to stay in Greece

Its geography is a patchwork of very different holidays: the volcanic drama and caldera views of Santorini, the beach-and-nightlife energy of Mykonos, the quieter family islands of Paros and Naxos, and the sprawling variety of Crete, the largest island. Head to the Dodecanese for the medieval old town of Rhodes and the mountain villages of Kos, or west to the lush, Venetian-tinged Ionian islands — Corfu, Kefalonia and Zakynthos — where forested hills meet turquoise water. On the mainland, the Peloponnese layers world-famous archaeology over wild coastline, Halkidiki offers easy northern beach resorts, and Athens anchors most trips with its ancient core and ferry connections. Most rentals here are independently owned villas, studios and island houses whose hosts know their patch intimately.

Vacation rentals in Greece: FAQ

Book vacation apartments and holiday homes safely with BookNoFees ↗
When is the best time for a holiday rental in Greece?

The classic season runs from late April to early October. July and August are hottest, busiest and priciest, ideal if you want full-swing island life and guaranteed beach weather. Many travellers prefer late May to June or September, when the sea is warm, days are long and villages are calmer. Spring and autumn suit the mainland, archaeology and hiking, while winter is very quiet on the islands with reduced ferries and many seasonal rentals closed.

Which region should I choose for my trip?

It depends on the holiday you want. The Cyclades (Santorini, Mykonos, Paros, Naxos) give you iconic scenery and island-hopping; Crete offers mountains, gorges, beaches and history in one large island; the Dodecanese (Rhodes, Kos) add medieval towns and a long warm season; the greener Ionian islands (Corfu, Kefalonia, Zakynthos) suit lush landscapes and family beaches; the Peloponnese pairs ancient sites with dramatic coast; Halkidiki is an easy northern beach base; and Athens is the natural start and ferry hub.

How do I get around the Greek islands?

Most island trips combine flights and ferries. Athens, Thessaloniki and several islands have airports, and a dense ferry network links the islands to Piraeus and to each other, especially in summer. Island-hopping in the Cyclades is popular, but ferry schedules thin out sharply outside the main season and can be affected by weather, so build in buffer time. On larger islands like Crete and the Peloponnese mainland, hiring a car gives you the most freedom to reach villages and beaches.

What does 0% commission on BookNoFees actually mean?

BookNoFees deducts no commission from the amount set by the host. The displayed total includes a 6.9% guest fee on the host price, covering payment processing, refund handling and payment risks. Nothing is added at checkout.

Is it safe to book direct with a host instead of a big platform?

Before booking, read the full listing, compare the photos with the stated amenities, and review the house rules, cancellation terms and total price. Contact the host through BookNoFees to clarify anything important to your stay, such as access, arrival arrangements or additional services. Keep your booking communication on the platform and complete the booking payment through the BookNoFees checkout, rather than a separate transfer to the host. If details are unclear, ask for an explanation before confirming.

Do Greek short-term rentals need to be registered?

Greece requires short-term rental properties to hold an official property registration number issued through the national tax authority, and hosts are expected to display it on their listings. The rules around registration, safety requirements and taxation have been tightened in recent years and continue to evolve, with some restrictions in central Athens. A registration number is a good sign a rental is operating properly, but confirm current requirements with your host, as the exact obligations and figures change over time.
