Alte Friesenstube

Alte Friesenstube occupies a thatched Frisian house on Gaadt in Westerland, with tiled dining rooms and a garden planted with roses. Built in 1648, the house was restored by the Schacht family and retains a strong connection to the island’s domestic architecture. The setting gives a meal here a distinctive sense of place before the first course arrives. The kitchen follows the same regional thread while adding more contemporary combinations. Its menu is written in Low German, so familiar northern dishes appear under their local names. Pannfisch brings together fish and potatoes from the pan with mustard sauce and salad. Roast duck comes with red cabbage and homemade potato dumplings, while braised ox cheeks are paired with root vegetables and chive mashed potatoes.
