Die Seenot stands among the dunes at Westerland’s beach section 41, with direct views of the North Sea. The setting makes the beach and water part of the meal, while its winter menu offers a broad choice of seafood, meat and vegetarian dishes. It works for a mixed party whose members want different kinds of food without giving up the coastal setting. Starters include gratinated goat cheese with tomato marmalade, tuna sashimi and a spicy fish soup with lobster cream, aioli and garlic bread. The seafood section ranges from North Sea plaice with rosemary potatoes to sea bass with herb foam and a mixed fish pan with prawns and Dijon mustard sauce. The Seenot bowl combines avocado, hummus, lentil salad, tomatoes and Parmesan. Burgers come in beef, vegetarian and barbecue chicken versions, with sweet potato fries among the accompaniments. Other substantial choices include roast duck with red cabbage and dumplings, veal liver with balsamic onions, and ox cheeks with vegetable accompaniments. A separate children’s section offers pasta, a hamburger, chicken and schnitzel in smaller meals. Desserts include red berry compote, tonka bean crème brûlée, salted caramel parfait and warm chocolate cake. The drinks selection covers coffee, tea, beer, wine and aperitifs, including alcohol free options. Table reservations are taken by telephone or in person, with email excluded for bookings.
